I begin by understanding how the existing house works, what is causing the problems and which parts of the building are worth retaining.
From there, the project may involve re-planning, extensions or alterations, planning work, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery, lighting, materials and interior design, depending on the agreed scope.
The value is not simply having several services available through one practice. It is that the decisions are made in relation to one another from the beginning.

I remain personally involved throughout the stages included in the agreed appointment. Where additional consultants or specialists are required, I work with them while retaining oversight of the design decisions already made.

A change to the architecture affects the interiors. Window positions affect kitchens and joinery. Ceiling design affects lighting. Doorways affect furniture and circulation. Materials need to work with the actual light in the room. Considering those decisions together makes it easier to maintain one direction through the project and reduces the risk of resolving important interior decisions too late.

My own 18th-century cottage became a three-year whole-home project, bringing architectural alterations, re-planning and interiors together as one scheme. Do I need to know whether I want an extension before contacting you?
No. Establishing whether additional floor area is necessary is part of the work. I examine circulation, room relationships and light before proposing construction, and will say if re-planning the existing house would serve you better.
Can architecture and interiors be included in the same appointment?
Yes. That is the purpose of this appointment: the architectural scheme and the interiors are developed together rather than resolved in sequence by different people.
Does Architecture & Interior Design Combined include planning?
Planning strategy and applications can be included, followed by Building Regulations and technical information, according to the agreed scope. The scope is set out before the appointment begins.
Do you work with listed or period properties?
Yes. Period, listed and character properties are a particular focus, and applications are prepared with that sensitivity — conservation officers have praised the light touch of my schemes.
How much does an Architecture & Interior Design Combined appointment cost?
Typically 5–7.5% of construction cost, agreed according to the size and complexity of the project. The initial conversation is free, and paid early stages such as Concept & Feasibility give a clearer picture of scope and cost before the full appointment.
What happens before the full appointment?
Most substantial projects begin with either the £595 Home Transformation Consultation or the £1,950 Concept & Feasibility stage, depending on how developed the project already is. Both produce written output you own regardless of what you decide next.
Do you remain involved during construction?
Where construction support is included in the agreed appointment, yes — tender information, builder coordination and continued involvement as the work proceeds. The extent is defined in the appointment rather than assumed.
Can the project include kitchens, joinery and lighting?
Yes. Kitchen and bathroom design, joinery, lighting, materials and finishes can all be developed alongside the architectural scheme, so the specification follows the layout rather than working around it.
