Ellesmere Road is a substantial three storey victorian family home, full of character. It suffered from a claustrophobic kitchen that was disconnected from the rest of the house, presenting issues with looking after 2 small children. The rest of the accommodation was beautifully presented but the lean-to glazed structure made the disconnected kitchen dark and created a barrier to the garden.
In this project we designed a side extension that linked the living room to the kitchen/diner via internal wide steps – perfect for reading or playing. Large roof lights flooded the space with natural light. A Large double bi-fold glazed door allowed easy, uninterrupted access into the garden. We used a blue/black brick that sat beautifully next to the Victorian red brick. It gave the extension its own identity whilst allowing it to sit harmoniously next to the Victorian villa.
